We are communicating beings; without communication, whether verbal, non-verbal, written, oral, by signs or gestures, we would not be able to live together. We are always in need of interacting with each other, and so we are also social beings.
One well-known form of communication takes place within the telecommunications industry, especially with mobile messaging. In fact, there are countless ways to interact through the use of mobile phones with SMS or instant messaging applications that allow us to exchange messages, voice audios or even calls.
Some of the most common applications used to communicate are:
WhatsApp: instant exchange of text messages, users can make calls and video calls, send voice audio messages, share images and videos or even location through individual or group chats.
Facebook Messenger: this platform is derived from the well-known social network Facebook, allowing users to interact with each other in the same way as WhatsApp does.
WeChat: this is an application that acts as an alternative to Facebook in China, where it is banned. So, this platform includes features such as those mentioned above, offering messaging, social networking and paid feeds.
Telegram: allows users to communicate with each other, acting as an instant messaging platform. However, it is important to note that what makes this app different from the rest is the focus on privacy, including end-to-end encryption and the storage of images and messages on secure servers. Another interesting feature is the security of users, as they are not necessarily asked to share their number, but only a username.
Skype: This platform is a conferencing-based application that gives users the ability to make voice and video calls as well as chat. It does not act as a social media network, but includes a user profile where personal information can be shared. In addition, Skype is mainly used in work environments.
Slack: is a collaborative application where users can chat privately or in groups and make calls or video calls. The particularity of this application is the cooperative functions it provides, such as being able to organise conversations through channels.
